Aerial Views of IsraelUsing a Windows machine (sorry Mac users are not supported), visit http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html. On the right side of the screen, click Download GoogleEarth.exe and allow a free executable file to be downloaded into your computer. Find that file and double click it to execute it. A program will be loaded into your computer which pulls data from a website(s) when you run it. When you run the program, it will come up giving you a bird's (satellite's) view of the USA. You can zoom using the lower + and - controls; you can pan by holding the left mouse button and moving the screen cursor. In the upper left corner under "Fly To" you can type in the latitude and longitude coordinates of a site, e.g. 31.252, -34.793 (- for East longitude), to fly to Beer Sheva. GoogleEarth zooms in very tightly, usually giving poor resolution. But you can zoom out using the - control. Similarly you can fly to Jerusalem, or elsewhere in the country, by typing coordinates into the upper left search box, or by panning, or by typing in the name Jerusalem. Or by typing in the name of other cities of the world known to GoogleEarth, you can fly there. For example entering Greenville SC and turning on the dining layer, you can see the eating establishments (known to GoogleEarth) there. During the next few months and years, GoogleEarth will be enhanced, both the free version and the professional, for-pay, version. A larger GoogleEarth aerial view of Israel and surrounding countries is here, or you can build your own higher resolution view as described above.
